Birmingham City were on the receiving end of a rare defeat on Tuesday night. BCFC were beaten 3-1 by Bolton Wanderers, ending the visitors’ 19-game unbeaten run in the league.
It was a rare night to forget for the Blues, who took the lead 23 minutes in through Emil Hansson. John McAtee equalised before the break before goals from George Thomason and Aaron Collins wrapped up a big win for the Trotters.
Chris Davies was without two of his first-team mainstays for the journey north as Ethan Laird and Ryan Allsop sat out following their substitutions against Wycombe Wanderers.
Now, speaking to Birmingham Live, the Birmingham City head coach has confirmed both Laird and Allsop are expected to miss ‘a few games’ through their respective blows.
“It will be a few games,” BCFC boss Davies has said.
“They are not six-weekers but a week or two with both of them is what we’re looking at.”
For cover, Birmingham City will have to call upon their welcome depth. Bailey Peacock-Farrell will deputise in goal while a number of players could fill in at right-back.
In their absence
Birmingham City have right-back cover aplenty, so Davies won’t be worried about his options there.
Laird has been in fine form, so his absence is a miss. Taylor Gardner-Hickman is a fine cover on the right though, while Krystian Bielik has also been used there and Alfons Sampsted is on the books.
In goal though, there might be worries. Peacock-Farrell hasn’t been the most convincing presence in goal when given his opportunities, so he’ll have to take this chance to step up and perform for BCFC.
The games without Laird and Allsop
It seems likely that Laird and Allsop will miss the next three Birmingham City games. After this stretch of three games in seven days, the international break comes, giving the Blues pair some time to recover.
Up next is a home clash against Lincoln City before another home tie against Stevenage three days later.
The Blues are back on the road on Saturday 15th, heading to Sixfields to face Northampton Town. By that point, Birmingham City will be hoping to have recovered from their Bolton Wanderers loss and further tightened their grip on the League One title.
